Reference Models for Information Management in a Smart Factory

Abstract

In the course of the fourth industrial revolution manufacturing plants are becoming increasingly intelligent and companies have to face the challenge of this increasing information flow. At present, industry and research are striving to find a viable path to enable the vision of the intelligent factory of the future. A key challenge is information management in a highly networked factory, which is also typically networked with its entire supply chain. This work presents four reference models for information management and draws a comparative analysis of the state of research.

Im Zuge der vierten industriellen Revolution werden Fertigungsanlagen zunehmend intelligenter und Unternehmen müssen sich der Herausforderung dieser zunehmenden Informationsflut stellen. Derzeit sind Industrie und Forschung damit bemüht einen gangbaren Weg zu finden, um die Visionen der intelligenten Fabrik der Zukunft zu ermöglichen. Eine zentrale Herausforderung dabei ist das Informationsmanagement in einer hochgradig vernetzten Fabrik, die darüber hinaus idealerweise mit ihrer gesamten Zulieferkette vernetzt ist. Diese Arbeit stellt vier Referenzmodelle für das Informationsmanagement vor und zieht eine vergleichende Bilanz über den Stand der Forschung.

Especially in data centers huge amounts of data can be transferred through the network using multicast techniques. I attended a seminar on large scale visualization and wrote a paper on high dimensional data visualization, comparing different techniques. A key concept of high dimensional data visualization is dimensionality reduction, in order to reduce the number of dimensions to be visualized. The paper covers linear (principal component analysis) and non-linear (local linear embedding, ISOMAP, t-SNE) dimensionality reduction techniques. The paper has been peer-reviewed in class. The title photo is a visualization of the MNIST dataset - a database of handwritten digits.

Master's Thesis: Introducing Performance Awareness in an Integrated Specification Environment

Abstract With an increase in software complexity and modularization to create large software systems and software product lines it is increasingly difficult to ensure all requirements are met by the built system. Performance requirements are an important concern to software systems and research has developed approaches being capable of predicting software performance from annotated software architecture descriptions, such as the Palladio tool suite. However, the tooling when moving between specification, implementation and verification phase has a gap as the tools are commonly not linked, leading to inconsistencies and ambiguities in the produced artifacts.
